Rick Fonté again co-directed with the ASF Artistic Director but since the AD was in the play, Rick ended up directing a lot more of it than he thought he would. This was an interesting experience because it was most about fulfilling another director’s vision while still adding to it artistically. The production was highly successful and profitable it played to packed houses for several weeks in a 250 seat theater.
“(ASF Artistic Director) Guy Roberts’ ideas were always great, they were just never strange enough for me, and he was a bit of a slave to the text. I love to rip Shakespeare apart and put it back together.”
After the R+J experience Rick and Guy began collaborating on a production of Othello where Rick would be the sole director, but unfortunately the theatre went into financial hard-times before the production was realized and Rick moved to Los Angeles.
